MYP Unit 1: Genetically Modified Foods Worksheet 2


a) What is the science behind genetically modified foods?

-The ability to transfer genes from organisms to other organisms 
-The ability to modify DNA and genes
-Inserting more calcium, protiens, etc... into your food


b) What foods are affected by this technology?

-Alfalfa
-Apple
-Cherry tomato
-Strawberry
-Banana
-Potato

And many more

c) What are the problems with this technology?

-GM foods can harm the environment and living things
-It kills some insects including butterflies and insect larvae
-The chemicals used to genetically modify food is known to cause lots of common allergens 
-It  also gives out many unknown effects on human health



d) What action has been taken to try and prevent the technology developing?  

-So far FDA (Food and drug Administration, USA) they have sent a message to all schools. The Ministry of Health and Ministry of education in dubai, has stopped public arab schools to sell  junk foods.
